Peterson Cartridge introduces the 6.8 Western
Pittsburgh, PA (March 6, 2026) – Peterson Cartridge Co. of Pittsburgh, PA announces the addition of 6.8 Western to its growing family of rifle casing calibers.

When Winchester and Browning began developing the 6.8 Western, they wanted a cartridge that could bridge the gap between today’s popular 6.5mm calibers and the larger, more efficient magnums. With the 6.8 Western they got what they were looking for. The caliber was released in 2021, and it has become a favorite of .277 caliber enthusiasts.
“The 6.8 Western has quickly earned a reputation as a high-performance cartridge for both hunting and long-range applications,” says Derek Peterson, president of Peterson Cartridge. “By adding 6.8 Western to our product lineup, we’re giving reloaders the opportunity to pair this innovative caliber with brass that meets the level of precision and consistency they expect from Peterson Cartridge.”
Peterson continues, “The 6.8 Western exists because shooters wanted short-action size, long-range ballistics, and heavy bullets – all in one package. It represents the evolution of 270 Winchester and 270 WSM, with modern bullet technology finally catching up to the .277 caliber’s potential.”
