6.5 x 47 Lapua Brass Cartridge Cases
The 6.5x47 Lapua is a caliber used by top shooters around the world. But the 6.5x47 is also a great caliber for less experienced shooters, because it is an easy caliber to develop accurate loads for.
Handloaders often talk about “accuracy nodes” which refers to how broad the powder charge can range and still produce consistently accurate shots. Some calibers have very small accuracy nodes. Also, with some calibers the frequency of those nodes is a lot less. But the 6.5x47 Lapua caliber has a large number of accuracy nodes and those nodes cover a broad range. We know of one 6.5x47 shooter who put over 3,000 rounds through the same barrel, and even with that amount of throat wear is still shooting sub-MOA at 1,000 yards with the same load.
According to Derek Peterson, president of Peterson Cartridge, “We are glad to have added the 6.5x47 Lapua to our growing arsenal of calibers in high use by competitive and long distance shooters.”
Additional Information
If you plan to load above SAAMI max pressure and are concerned about primer-pocket leak, Peterson recommends you try their 6.5 Creedmoor Small Rifle Primer. While they do not suggest loading over SAAMI max pressures, Peterson's small primer pocket 6.5 Creedmoor have proven to hold up over SAAMI max pressures when tested in their universal receiver.
*Note: All of our SRP casings feature a small flash hole in the diameter of 0.060” vs. the 0.080” flash hole found in our LRP casings. This means you will need an X-small/ Undersized Decapping Pin to deprime our casings.
